When Melanie is out in nature, whether it is the wilds of the Adirondack Mountains or the flat lands of her native country, England, she looks at her surroundings and sees their abundance.
Melanie strongly believes that wild nutrition should be promoted to both young and old as a real source of mainstream healthy food .
Her passion leads her to spend as much time teaching about wild all that she knows about foraging, cooking and identifying wild foods in person at Outdoor Symposiums, Adventure Summits, at Luxury Hotels and in schools and Universities.
Melanie was born in the Cotswolds in England but her home for the last 23 years is in New York State, She lives off grid in the beauty and wilderness of the 6 million acre Adirondack State Park.
Her partner, Brian (mixed blood Mohawk & Scottish) built their beautiful off grid home on the top of what they call Thunderhawk Mountain from scratch back in the early 2000's. They have their own drilled well drilled 600 ft into the bedrock, solar power for electricity and a propane powered back up generator for wintery days. Heating is provided by a wood burning stove. They have all the amenities of a normal home without being tied to the power grid.
Founded in 2021, Thunderhawk Living History School seeks to give observers and participants a sense of stepping back in time in the New York, Vermont and New Hampshire area. It is an interactive Living History program using researched, documented and historically correct presentation of how life was for people in the 1700's on the North Eastern Coast of the New World from the perspective of both the Native American Indians, the fur traders, the Highlanders, British settlers and Rogers Rangers, who were the origin of what the Special Forces are today.
" The Thunderhawk Guides personas are drawn from their own heritages "
Melanie and the other Thunderhawk Guides present their lessons in both, visual narrative and tactile ways so that each observer will find something that enables them to walk away with a positive experience. Different lives of that time, everyday objects, seasonal foraging and hunting plus many other objects that would be found or used as trade during that time are used and taught about during each lesson. Melanie feels this really helps give everyone a better connection and easier way of understanding to the living history experience.
